In May 2021, as part of Compass Group UK & Ireland, we set ourselves the goal of reaching Net Zero by 2030. Every decision we make is driven by this ambition, with a focus on doing our part to minimise our impact on the planet.
Compass Group UK & Ireland's Transition Plan outlines the progress we've made so far, the challenges we've faced along the way, and the steps still ahead. As the first in the industry to create a transition plan, we aim to be transparent about our journey, hoping to encourage other businesses to follow suit.
A few of our successes
- Water Stewardship: We’ve identified 13 commodities with the highest water impact and are working with Anthesis Group to reduce our water footprint.
- Food Waste Reduction: In the 2023 financial year, we donated 79.5 tonnes of food to charities, the equivalent of 185,500 meals and converted 753,252 litres of cooking oil into biofuels.
- Packaging Switches: 96% of disposable food service products now have switches agreed to be recyclable, reusable or fibre-based compostable where facilities exist.
- Non-food circular economies: 48.8mn pieces of cutlery, 6.3mn plastic bottles, 1.4mn cans and 3.9mn sauce sachets removed between 2019 and 2023.
This is just a small snapshot of all the work we're doing to improve our impact on the planet. From our packaging to our suppliers, events and waste, we’re working hard to pioneer a better way to do business in our industry.

“We always knew setting a 2030 target was ambitious, but it has helped to accelerate change in our business and drive positive behaviours as we seek to operate more sustainably in all that we do. It’s great to see that the actions we are taking are having an impact."
Robin Mills, CEO, Compass Group UK & Ireland
