Technology that transforms the everyday

People expect more from the spaces they use every day. The speed and convenience of the high street has changed how customers browse, order and pay, with digital menus, self-service checkouts, mobile ordering and contactless payments now part of everyday retail.

At One Retail, transforming a space starts with understanding those behaviours. What slows people down. What makes the experience easier. Where technology can remove friction or create more choice. Our digital solutions are shaped around the way people use each environment, from how they browse and order to the way they pay, collect and move through the space.

From insight to action

Every space has its own pressures, patterns and opportunities. A hospital through the night needs something very different from an airport at breakfast, or an in-store cafe during the lunch rush.

Before we bring in technology, we look at how the space is working . Where people move. When demand builds. Where queues slow things down. What would help customers get what they need more easily. We also consider how teams can be better supported when pressure increases.

E15, our retail analytics platform, helps to build that picture, alongside the operational experience we bring from foodservice, convenience retail and high-footfall environments. Together, that insight helps us choose digital solutions with a clear purpose.

Frictionless stores

In 24/7 environments like hospitals and airports, staffing a full store around the clock often isn’t practical. But customers still need access to food and drink beyond the limits of traditional retail hours.

Market Express brings convenient food and drink retail into spaces where quick access is essential. Available in both traditional and frictionless formats, it can be shaped around the needs of each location, from a compact retail space selling ready-to-go food and drink to a fully frictionless store where customers enter, choose what they need and leave without using a conventional checkout.

In 2024, we introduced Market Express at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, the first UK healthcare environment to launch the concept. Now It now gives staff, patients and visitors a seamless way to access food and drink throughout the day and night.

Self-service kiosks

In busy ordering environments like travel hubs and instore restaurants, a staffed counter can quickly come under pressure. Menu browsing, order taking and payment all sit in one place, slowing service and making the ordering experience harder to manage.

Self-service kiosks give customers an efficient way to browse, order and pay. With full menus and options displayed on screen, including the ability to check product information and tailor their order, customers can complete payment without waiting at the till. Their compact footprint also means more kiosks can be installed in the same space than traditional staffed checkouts, helping increase capacity, reduce queues and create a smoother ordering journey with faster service and greater order accuracy.

AI tray scanners

In healthcare restaurants, workplace dining spaces and busy cafés, checkout can add unnecessary complexity to the foodservice experience. Traditional tills rely on each item being scanned or entered separately, adding extra steps in spaces where speed and accuracy are essential.

AI tray scanners make checkout quicker by recognising multiple items at once. Customers place their tray beneath the scanner, the items are identified and the order is ready for payment without each product being scanned one by one, giving teams a more efficient way to manage high-volume service.

Micro markets

In workplaces, healthcare environments and leisure venues, a full café or store isn’t always the right fit for every space. But customers still need convenient access to food, drink and everyday essentials, especially in buildings with changing footfall, shift patterns or areas away from the main retail offer.

Micro markets create a flexible self-service retail space, with shelves, chillers and a payment point where customers can browse, choose what they need and pay without a staffed till. They can be used to extend the food and drink offer into spaces that need more choice, without the footprint or staffing needs of a traditional store.

By making better use of available space and supporting out-of-hours demand, micro markets give customers a straightforward way to access food and drink throughout the day.

Mobile ordering

In workplace restaurants and busy foodservice spaces, not every order needs to start at the counter. Customers want more flexibility in how they choose and collect food, while connected menus, orders and availability help keep the experience clear and easy to manage.

The Time2Eat App brings digital ordering into one platform. Through the app or web app, customers can browse the food offer, order ahead, pay and collect, with options such as table service, delivery and Scan & Go available where they’re needed.

With more ways to order and better visibility across menus, availability and feedback, the Time2Eat App helps busy teams create a more flexible foodservice experience.
